Summary:
The cultural festival Palestine in Berlin, scheduled to take place on January 24-25, 2026, at the intercultural center BBK Linde in Berlin-Reinickendorf, was canceled following a post by the Israeli Embassy to Germany on X which accused the festival of including the "Hamas Red Triangle" in its flyer design as a "symbol of the murder of Jews." After further pressure from the tabloid Bild and contacts between the Israeli Embassy and the Berlin Senate, the Reinickendorf district authority prohibited the event and ordered the sports and cultural association Salam e.V. to cancel it. Salam e.V. subsequently issued a statement distancing itself from both the symbol and Hamas. The association also stated that it had merely made the premises available to a Palestinian artist and that the flyers had been produced without its consent. The two-day program was set to include a Dabke workshop, a children's painting workshop, a dance performance, a stall featuring Palestinian products, and a film screening.
