At a law school graduation ceremony at Heidelberg University in July 2026, a graduate wanted to use his brief speaking time to draw attention to the situation in Palestine. Professors on stage as well as parts of the audience responded by saying that this was "not appropriate" and that "political statements" were not welcome at the event. A Palestinian flag he had brought with him was ultimately taken out of his hands.
