University of Bremen Rector Jutta Günther banned a campus event with the Jewish psychoanalyst Iris Hefets, titled Silence and Guilt? Psychological Mechanisms in Dealing with the Genocide in Gaza, which had been scheduled for June 28, 2025. In her email, Günther justified the ban by citing the 2024 Report on the Protection of the Constitution, which classified Hefets’ association Jewish Voice as "confirmed extremist." The talk, which examined psychological dynamics of denial, guilt, and repression surrounding mass violence in Gaza, was moved to the Zion Community Center (Gemeindezentrum Zion). Hefets criticized the decision as a politically motivated suppression of Jewish dissent, arguing that Germany uses the extremism label as a pretext to silence critical Jewish voices on Palestine.
