The Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences abruptly shut down the self-managed student café Kurzschlusz, a 43-year-old organizing space, by changing the locks overnight. In a statement on July 1, 2025, the university cited procedural violations and a demilitarization event allegedly involving non-UAS groups. Students, however, describe these claims as pretexts. Organizers noted that the closure came immediately after a well-attended series of Palestine-solidarity and anti-racist events, and followed months of disputes in which the administration had already withdrawn an agreed-upon compromise regarding the café’s legal status.
